Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Jorge Roque hit just .137 in 65 big league games for the St. Louis Cardinals and Montreal Expos. He was given a shot to be the Expos' starting centerfielder at the beginning of the 1973 season, after being acquired in an off-season trade for C Tim McCarver, but he hit just .148 in 25 games and was sent down to the minors on May 15th, never to return.

Roque was taken in the 1974 Rule V Draft by the New York Mets, one of only three picks that year, after hitting .320 for Puebla in the Mexican League the preceding season, but he never played for the Mets. Instead, he returned to Puebla in 1975 and continued playing in the Mexican League until 1979.

Jorge played for the Ponce Lions and Mayagüez Indians of the Puerto Rican Winter Baseball League.

His son, also named Jorge Roque was a minor leaguer. He is also related to Otto Velez.
