Biographical Information[edit]
Pittsburgh native John Wehner spent most of his major league career with the Pittsburgh Pirates. On October 1, 2000, he hit the final home run in the history of Three Rivers Stadium. In addition, Wehner shares the Major League record of playing 99 consecutive errorless games at third base with Jeff Cirillo.
Wehner began a coaching career during his final months as a player when he served as a player/coach for the Altoona Curve in 2001. He returned to the Curve in 2003-2004 as the team's hitting coach.
In 2005, Wehner rejoined the Pirates as a broadcaster and is still in that role as of 2024.
Notable Achievement[edit]
- Won a World Series with the Florida Marlins in 1997 (he did not play in the World Series)
