Biographical Information[edit]
John Upham was used as both a pitcher and outfielder for the Chicago Cubs during parts of the 1967 and 1968 seasons. Upham fared better as a hitter in 1967 going 2 for 3 at the plate, while giving up 5 runs in one inning and one third on the mound. In 1968 he was better at pitching, giving up no runs in 7 innings while going 2 for 10 at the plate. He started a game in center field on August 18, 1968.
He coached for Team Canada in the 1991 Pan American Games.
Upham grew up in Windsor, ON and attended Assumption High School under legendary baseball coach Father Ronald Cullen.
