John Taber, from Massachusetts, played two games for the 1890 Boston Beaneaters.

"John Taber, the Boston League team's experimental pitcher is a jolly fellow, and has become very popular with his teammates." - Sporting Life, April 12, 1890

"Taber, the young Boston pitcher, pitched well, but was evidently rattled by the coaching of (his teammates) Tucker and Long." - Sporting Life, May 3, 1890, discussing the game of April 30 between Boston and Brooklyn

"John Taber has had an offer from Tacoma. He says it is too far to walk, and prefers to be nearer home." - Sporting Life, January 3, 1891
