Biographical Information[edit]

John Savage was the owner of the Topeka Savages in 1916. He moved to Joplin, MO that off-season and shifted the club also, becoming the Joplin Miners in 1917. On August 2nd, he released Jack Dalton as manager and centerfielder and assumed the managerial reins himself in a cost-cutting move.

Savage had previously been the secretary of the Kansas City Blues in 1913-1914 at least. He then bought the Topeka Jayhawks in February 1915. Savage sold the Joplin club in February 1919 and returned to the Blues as secretary where he would stay through 1932 when the team was sold. He was listed variously as vice president and business manager of the Blues.
