John Rooney
John Rooney was a television broadcaster for the Chicago White Sox in 1988 and did play-by-play for the club's radio broadcasts from 1989 to 2005. A fan favorite in the Windy City, Rooney can lay a claim to fame as the only living broadcaster to call a World Series winner in the city of Chicago. He has joined the St. Louis Cardinals to work with Mike Shannon for the 2006 season as the Redbirds have moved their radio flagship after 51 years to KTRS from KMOX. Rooney has also called games for the Minnesota Twins prior to his calling games for the Pale Hose.
Rooney has a long history of national broadcasting experience. He was a member of the CBS radio family for over a decade, calling NFL games including Sunday & Monday Night Football. He has also called the Final Four for 10 years on national radio. In addition to his Cardinals announcing, Rooney currently works on the Sports USA Radio National radio package calling NFL and NCAA football for the network.
