Biographical Information[edit]
John Lyston was one of three baseball-playing brothers. Bill Lyston was an outfielder and Mortimer Lyston played shortstop and outfield. It appears the Lyston who appeared in one game each for the Columbus Solons in 1891 and the Cleveland Spiders 1894 was John, an amateur pitcher from Baltimore, MD. He had earlier worked three American Association games as an umpire in 1890.
In the minors John played for Winston-Salem.
