Biographical Information[edit]

John Goetz pitched four games in the majors.

His debut outing for the Chicago Cubs, on April 16, 1960, was by far his best; he pitched 2 and 2/3 innings against the San Francisco Giants, only giving up 1 hit, walking 1 and striking out 2. Goetz even struck out Willie Mays in the bottom of the 6th inning.

In the rest of his career (3 more appearances in April of 1960) he pitched 3 and 2/3 innings; he gave up 9 hits, allowed 9 runs walked 3 and struck out 4.

John Goetz was born in a town that bears his last name - Goetzville, located on the far eastern end of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

He was at Western Michigan University at the same time as Jim Bouton.
