Biographical Information[edit]

This John Glenn wasn't an astronaut, but he did play in the major leagues for a couple months with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1960. Although a 31-year-old rookie, he was still eight years younger than teammate Stan Musial. On the other hand, he was nine years older than teammate Curt Flood, who was already in his fifth major league season. Like Musial and Flood, Glenn played outfield.

He also had 15 years in the minors. He was in the Brooklyn / Los Angeles Dodgers organization during all of the 1950s. A speedster, he stole 67 bases with the St. Paul Saints in 1957, and again in 1959. When he hit .307 for St. Paul in 1960, he attracted the Cardinals' attention. However, in his time with the Cards, he didn't try to steal a base.

John is one of five players (through 2019) born in Moultrie, GA. One of them, Bill Hall was also born in Moultrie, three weeks after John.
