Biographical Information

Honest John Eubank pitched for the Detroit Tigers in 1905-07 and also played other positions in the field.

In his rookie season, he had a 2.08 ERA in 17.1 innings (3 games) while he hit .357 in 14 at-bats (7 games total). He was 33 years old when he made his major league debut.

" 'HONEST' JOHN EUBANK . . . led the American League pitchers last year -- it's no jolly he did, although he pitched but two games in his try-out. . . He was the best pitcher in the Iowa State League last year. This spring his speed has been something terrific . . ." - from Sporting Life, April 7, 1906

The Sporting Life issue of July 21, 1906, called him an "Indiana gristmill hand, and stated:

"The big right-hander had a lot of trouble learning that American League batters cannot be fooled by mere speed. He had to develop a curve ball and learn how to control it and he has done it."

Through 2010 no other major leaguer has had last name Eubank, although Uel Eubanks came close.
