Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher John Doherty had a couple of good seasons for some very average early 1990s Detroit Tigers teams, going 7-4, 3.88 as a rookie in 1992 and 14-11, 4.44 in 1993. He is best remembered in Detroit for being at the receiving end of a leaping karate kick from Sandy Alomar Jr. in a game at Tiger Stadium during the summer of 1992.

After his first two solid seasons, he struggled the rest of his career, never posting an ERA below 5.00 in his final three seasons. He was tried as a reliever in 1995 an picked up 6 saves, but his overall mark of 5-9, 5.10 was unimpressive.
