Biographical Information[edit]
John P. Carmichael was a respected sportwriter. He began his career in 1924 with the Milwaukee Leader. In 1927, he moved to Chicago. As a writer for the Chicago Daily News, Carmichael write a daily column called "The Barbershop", which ran for 38 years. He was also the editor for the entire run of its existence, 1938-1954, of Who's Who in the Major Leagues. He was the lead author of My Greatest Day in Baseball
Carmichael retired at age 70 in 1972. He was awarded the J.G. Taylor Spink Award in 1974.
