Biographical Information

John Barfield ended his big league career with 53 strikeouts and an 8-8, 4.72 mark in 65 games with the Texas Rangers from 1989 to 1991. He was shot and killed on Christmas Eve, 2016. The shooter, William Goodman, was the husband of a girl that Barfield was seeing. He was convicted in August 2017 and sentenced to 10 years for manslaughter and 15 years for firearm enhancement, the sentences to run consecutively.
