Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Joel Crump played in the Baltimore Orioles system from 2000 to 2002. He was drafted by Baltimore in the 17th round of the 2000 amateur draft, one pick before Travis Chapman.

With the GCL Orioles in 2000, Crump was 2-1 with an 8.10 ERA in 12 appearances. The next year, with the GCL Orioles and the Bluefield Orioles, he was 1-0 with a save and a 2.30 ERA in 17 games. In 15 appearances (21 2/3 innings) for Bluefield in 2001, he was 1-0 with 25 strikeouts and a 2.49 ERA.

Overall, Crump was 4-1 with a save and a 4.04 ERA in 44 career appearances. In 69 innings, he allowed 80 hits and struck out 58 while walking 39 and throwing 12 wild pitches.

He was murdered at the age of 27 in 2008; his gunshot body was found in a Jeep.
