Biographical Information[edit]
Joe Straub played three years in the majors, getting most of his at-bats with the Columbus Buckeyes in 1883.
He also played for a number of minor league teams, including Milwaukee and Denver. The book The Western League: A Baseball History, 1885 through 1999 has a photo of the pennant-winning 1886 Denver team which includes Joe.
The book Baseball's Most Wanted II states that Joe was born in Germany and that his career might have been hindered because he could not speak English, although other sources list him as born in Milwaukee, WI.
The All Games Baseball site refers to him as a "a German immigrant Milwaukeean who spoke no English" when he played for the Troy Trojans in 1880.
