Biographical information[edit]

Joe Schaefer is a college coach.

Schaefer hit .296 as a college shortstop and went 2-1 on the mound. He was assistant coach at Point Loma Nazarene University, his alma mater, from 2003-2008. He became head coach in 2009 and went 45-13 his first year. The team made it to the finals of the 2009 NAIA College World Series before falling to Lubbock Christian University; it was the best finish in school annals. The team went 39-18-1 the next year, making the 2010 NAIA College World Series. He went 341-217-1 in 10 seasons at Point Loma before moving on to Northwest Nazarene University. He led Northwest Nazarene to its first Division II College World Series appearance in 2021

His wife Cheryl is head softball coach at Point Loma Nazarenze.
