Biographical Information[edit]

Joe Richardson was a minor league player and manager.

He began his pro career with the Topeka Owls in 1940 and spent the next two years with the Bowling Green Barons. He hit .242/?/.352 the first year and .310/?/.439 in 39 games the second. After serving in the Army during World War II (serving in Normandy, France, Belgium and Germany), he returned to baseball in 1946. He clubbed 19 home runs and scored 96 times in 104 games for the '46 Hopkinsville Hoppers while batting .312/.423/.519. He fielded .922 in 56 games at second and .939 in 45 outfield games. He tied Calvin Chapman for 8th int he KITTY League in dingers. He was also 5 for 21 that year for the Youngstown Gremlins. In '47, Joe had a second good year for the Hoppers at .318 with 33 doubles, 18 home runs and a .513 slugging percentage. He led the KITTY league in home runs, was 7th in doubles and made the top 10 in slugging. After injuries ended his playing career, he managed the Central City Reds for part of 1954. He also saw some playing time that year, going 26 for 79 with 4 doubles and 3 home runs.

After his baseball career, he worked for the Pittsburg and Midway Coal Co. and as a car salesman, while also supporting Little League Baseball.
