Biographical Information[edit]

"Joe McCabe might not be the most ballyhooed new member of the Purdue Athletics Hall of Fame, but he just might be the most interesting one." - from an article about Joe McCabe in the Journal & Courier [1]

Joe McCabe had 14 games in the majors in each of 1964 and 1965. While he was not there long, he once got a hit off of Whitey Ford. Joe also had six seasons in the minors, most notably in 1962 with the Vancouver Mounties when he posted a line of .309/.353/.509 in 59 games.

Joe was born in Indianapolis, IN in the same month that Ray Oyler was born there. His time at Purdue University overlapped with that of Bernie Allen.

After baseball he became a commercial pilot, flying for PanAm for many years. He earned certifications to fly twelve different types of aircraft, including the Boeing 777. Source: article cited above.

Through 2019, he is one of six major leaguers with the last name McCabe.
