Biographical Information[edit]

Joe Duff coached college baseball for four decades.

Duff was a radio operator in the Marine Corps during World War II. At WVY, he played baseball and basketball. He set the WVU record for free-throw percentage in a season (since broken) and played in the 1947 NIT. He coached baseball and basketball at Union High School in 1951-1952. In 1953, he came to the United States Naval Academy as assistant to Max Bishop (baseball) and Ben Carnevale (basketball).

Duff became head baseball coach at Navy in 1962 and held the job until 1993. He won five Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League titles (1962, 1963, 1979, 1982, 1986), going to the NCAA Tournament the last three times. He had a record of 595-332-11. NFL star Roger Staubach played under Duff at Navy.
