Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Joe Cherry played in the minor leagues from 1961 to 1969. He had previously played for the Indianapolis Clowns. He spent most of his career in the Chicago White Sox system, but also spent time in the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies organizations.

Fleet-footed for a backstop, Cherry stole 21 bases in 1963, 23 bases in 1964, 13 in 1965 and 11 in 1968. Overall, Cherry hit .248/.344/.350 with 36 home runs, 291 RBI and 104 stolen bases.

He had been taken by the Reading Phillies in the Triple-A round of the 1967 Rule V Draft.
