Biographical Information[edit]

Joe Callahan pitched 10 games for Casey Stengel and the Boston Bees (between 1939 and 1940). Ralph McLeod recalled that he, Callahan, Elbie Fletcher, and Vito Tamulis worked during the offseason in Gilchrist's department store, ostensibly as salesmen but mostly for show. Source: SABR Biography of Ralph McLeod. Callahan was born and died in the Boston area, went to college at Northeastern in town, and pitched for the Bees. Thedeadballera.com says he died at 32 from "cerebral embolism complicated by rheumatic heart disease and pneumonia".
