Biographical Information[edit]
Joe Bankhead is the younger brother of Sammy Bankhead, Dan Bankhead and Fred Bankhead and the older brother of Garnett Bankhead. He had the shortest career of the baseball clan, consisting of one season (1948 with the Birmingham Black Barons). He saw limited action and did not pitch in the 1948 Negro World Series. He signed with the Grand Rapids Jets and pitched very briefly in the minors. A year after he spent time in a VA hospital, he died.
