Biographical Information

Infielder Jimmy Walsh played eight seasons in professional baseball. He was in the minors for two years (1908-1909) and then spent the last six years (1910-1915) of his career in the major leagues, with three different teams.

Jimmy hit for a .266 average in 109 games while playing the third base spot in 1909 for the South Bend Greens of the class B Central League and was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies of the National League on September 1, 1909 in the 1909 Rule V Draft.

After hitting .333 in 26 games for the Phillies in 1913, Jimmy jumped to the Federal League with the Baltimore Terrapins. He had his best season in 1914, when he hit at a .308 clip with 10 home runs in 120 games.

Jimmy played one more year of pro ball in 1915, a split season affair, again with Baltimore for 106 games and then finished up his career with the St. Louis Terriers, also of the Federal League, in 17 games, for a combined .294 average and 9 home runs. He left the game at the age of 29 with a major league career batting average of .285 and 25 home runs in 502 games.

After leaving baseball, he owned and operated a restaurant at Catonsville, MD. Michael Timothy Walsh died on January 21, 1947 at his home in Baltimore, MD, after an illness that had kept him confined six months.
