James B. Shewmake
Jim Shewmake worked one game as a replacement umpire in the American League on August 25, 1978, when the regular umpires staged a one-day strike to obtain recognition for their union. His game took place at Arlington Stadium in Arlington, TX and he worked third base. Contrary to many colleagues who worked that day, he did not come back to work during the longer umpires' strike the following season.
