James Rains
Jim Rains was a replacement umpire in the National League on August 25, 1978, when the regular umpires staged a one-day strike to have their union recognized as an official bargaining unit. He worked 12 more games at the start of the 1979 season when the umpires went on strike again, but for a longer stretch. Away from baseball, he worked for USI Chemical.
