Biographical Information[edit]

Jim McLaughlin was born in Ohio, died in Ohio, and started in pro ball in Ohio in 1883 with the Toledo Blue Stockings in the Northwestern League. However, his one stint in the majors was not in Ohio, but rather with the Baltimore Orioles of the American Association in 1884. He pitched three games, with an ERA of 3.68 which was worse than average but not terrible, and he also appeared three times in the outfield, hitting .227 on a team whose overall average was .233. He actually logged more innings in the outfield then on the mound.

Jim was 23, and that was the average age of the pitching staff of the Orioles. He played in the minors through 1888.

He is not to be confused with the later Jim McLaughlin, who also had one season in the majors.
