Biographical Information[edit]
Jim Marquis pitched a couple games for the 1925 New York Yankees. Although one tends to think of the Yankees in the 1920's as a dominant team, in 1925 they went 69-85 on the season. None of the starting rotation had a record over .500 (the best was Urban Shocker who went 12-12). Neither Babe Ruth nor Lou Gehrig hit .300 that year, and neither hit as many as 30 home runs (mainly because neither had 500 at-bats). Marquis was two years older than Gehrig.
Marquis was acquired in August 1925 from the Western League and pitched his two games in the first half of August. He was a bit wild, giving up 6 walks in 7 1/3 innings.
