Biographical Information[edit]
Jim Jachym was the son of Joe Jachym. Jim was picked by the Oakland A's in the 27th round of the 1968 amateur draft out of high school but did not sign. At UConn, he was picked twice - by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 4th round of the 1971 secondary draft and by the California Angels in the 5th round of the 1972 January draft. He wound up signing with the Houston Astros. Jachym pitched for the 1972 Cocoa Astros, going 2-3 with two saves in 15 games (6 starts). He had a 3.00 ERA. In 54 innings, he allowed 42 hits (only one homer) and fanned 43 but walked 40. He went 5 for 15 at the plate. That would be his lone season in pro ball.
