Biographical Information[edit]

Jim Honochick played in the minors for three years, then umpired in the minors for three before spending 25 years as a big-league umpire.

He was with the Baltimore Orioles of the International League from 1941 to 1946, but he was voluntarily retired in 1942 and missed 1944 and 1945 due to military service. The outfielder hit .289/~.391/.413 in 339 AB in 1941 and .263/~.336/.372 and a team-leading 8 triples in only 274 AB in 1943. After 13 games in 1946 (.280/~.379/.400), Honochich retired to become an umpire.

Honochick was an umpire in the Eastern Shore League in 1946 and the International League in 1947-1948. He was then an American League umpire for 25 seasons, from 1945 to 1973.
