Biographical Information[edit]
Jim Hackett was tried by the St. Louis Cardinals both as a hitter and as a pitcher.
He pitched 11 games in 1902 and 1903, with a record of 1-6. In 1903, his ERA wasn't bad, at 3.72, somewhat below league average. As a first baseman in 1903, he appeared in 89 games, making 28 errors. His season batting average was .228 in 351 at-bats. He was the regular first baseman on the team, but his batting average was the lowest of the regulars.
The next year, the Cards had 36-year-old Jake Beckley at first base.
His brother, Thomas Hackett, played and managed in the minor leagues, though they are not know to be part of the larger Clarkson/Hackett clan.
