Biographical Information[edit]

Jesus Hernaiz pitched 27 games for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1974. At 29 years of age, he was five years older than teammate Mike Schmidt.

Hernaiz, born in Santurce, PR, played in the Puerto Rico Winter Baseball League with the Caguas Creoles and the Mayagüez Indians. Armed with an excellent fastball, Jesús played from the 1970s to the early 1990s with Mayagüez.

In the minors, Hernaiz began in 1967 at age 22, and finished up in 1983 at age 38. He won 82 games, with most of his appearances being in relief.

Hernaiz was pitching coach of the Bend Phillies in 1981, Idaho Falls A's in 1984, Pocatello Gems in 1985, Medford A's/Southern Oregon A's in 1986-1988, AZL Athletics in 1989, and Kingsport Mets in 1991-1994.
