Biographical Information[edit]
Jesse Baker came to the majors in 1919, playing one inning at shortstop for the Washington Senators against the Detroit Tigers on September 14th, and got spiked by Ty Cobb during a play. Baker was born Michael Silverman but changed his name. Due to the fact that he was 5' 4", he was called lots of nicknames, of which "Tiny" was the best known. He also played semi-pro ball and managed in the minors. Later, he was involved as a fight promoter and Hollywood stunt double. Source: [1] He is not to be confused with a slightly earlier Jesse Baker, who was from the state of Washington and played in the majors in 1911.
