Jersey van Doornspeek played in the Hoofdklasse. His son Robin van Doornspeek was an Olympic pitcher and his daughter played softball in the Netherlands.

Van Doornspeek helped the Terrasvogels make it to the Hoofdklasse for the first time ever, in 1970. He hit .240 as an outfielder. He remained with the Terrasvogels when they relegated to the Eerste Klasse. From 1975-1980, he played for Haarlem Nicols. He batted .295 with 22 runs in 1975 as the team won the Hoofdklasse title. They repeated in 1976-1977 with van Doornspeek being used as a P-OF. In 1979, he hit .300 for Haarlem Nicols. He was with UVV in 1981-1982 to end his Hoofdklasse career. He hit .342 with 39 runs in 1982, finishing three runs behind league leader Marcel Joost.

After his playing career ended, van Doornspeek coached for the Dutch Baseball Federation and coached for Transvogels in 2011. One of his players was his son Robin.
