Biographical Information

Jerry Priddy's career is discussed at length in Bill James' book Whatever Happened to the Hall of Fame?, originally published as The Politics of Glory. James' angle is that Priddy and Phil Rizzuto were both highly-touted minor leaguers in the late 1930s, playing on the same teams in the New York Yankees farm system, but that their careers went in completely separate directions. It was Priddy who was the more naturally-talented of the two, but Rizzuto who ended in the Hall of Fame. Despite this, Priddy logged a solid M.L. career, having his best years with the Browns.

Priddy entered the Army in December 1943 and was discharged in January 1946. Long after his baseball career, Priddy was convicted of extortion and spent several months in prison.

Notable Achievements

• 100 Runs Scored Seasons: 1 (1950)
• Won a World Series with the New York Yankees in 1941 (he did not play in the World Series)
