Biographical Information

Pitcher Jerry Johnson started as a third basemen in the New York Mets farm system in 1962 prior to his move to the mound full time by 1965. After making his major league debut with the 1968 Philadelphia Phillies, Johnson crafted a 10-year career in the bigs as part of 7 different teams. He was a replacement level pitcher over that span, going 48-51 with a 4.31 ERA in 365 games pitched.

His best year in the majors, with the 1971 San Francisco Giants, saw Johnson pitch 109 innings in relief as he won 12 games and saved 18 others. Johnson had one final notable moment in his last season of 1977 when he was the winning pitcher on April 7th as the Toronto Blue Jays won their inaugural game over the Chicago White Sox by a 9-5 score at Exhibition Stadium.

In 1989, Johnson played for the St. Lucie Legends of the Senior Professional Baseball Association.
