The son of Vallie Eaves, Jerry Eaves pitched two years in the minors. He broke in during the 1957 season, starting off with the Hobbs Sports. he was sold to the Chicago White Sox mid-year and was 1-1 for their Dubuque Packers before being returned to Hobbs. Overall, Eaves was 2-4 with a 9.17 ERA for Hobbs; his father also pitched for the team. While the Southwestern League was a high-scoring circuit, Jerry was one of its worst hurlers in 1957. In 54 innings, he allowed 89 hits, 48 walks and 10 wild pitches, gave up 75 runs (55 earned) and struck out only 20. He was better at the plate, going 5 for 20 with a double, a triple, 2 walks and 5 runs. In 1958, he pitched briefly for the Panama City Fliers to wrap up his career.
