Biographical Information[edit]
Signed as a pitcher in 1959, Jeoff Long - a strong power hitter - was converted to first base in the low minors. The presence of All-Star Bill White on the St. Louis Cardinals, as well as a chronic knee problem, limited him to just 56 games in the majors with the Cardinals and the Chicago White Sox in 1963 and 1964.
In 1975, Jeoff (a 15-handicap amateur) won the first National Open Long Driving contest, beating many PGA pros.
