Biographical Information[edit]
Jennings Poindexter appeared in the majors in 1936 and 1939. Most of his games were in 1939, when his ERA of 4.15 was considerably better than the Philadelphia Phillies team ERA of 5.17. It was also considerably better than the ERAs of most of the team's starters.
Poindexter pitched in 1936 for the Little Rock Travelers, striking out 17 Nashville Vols batters in one game. He was with the Minneapolis Millers in 1938.
He managed the 1948 Pauls Valley Raiders for part of the season.
He is the only major leaguer (through 2019) with the last name Poindexter. Although there have been several players with the last name Jennings, he is the only one remembered with it as a first name (although in reality it was his middle name).
