Jefferson Burdick
Jefferson Burdick (1900-1963) was a pioneer in the hobby of collecting and classifying baseball cards and in research on their history. In 1939, he created the first American Card Catalog, the first attempt to enumerate and classify existing cards, which introduced the various coded notations that are still used in the hobby today. He accumulated a huge personal collection, which he donated upon his death to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, NY as a resource for future researchers.
In 2018, he was posthumously bestowed the Henry Chadwick Award for his contribution to baseball research.
