Jay Alexander

Jay Alexander was the first African-American head coach in the history of Eastern Michigan University. He was a star SS/CF at Wayne State, leading the team in average, hits, runs and steals as a senior and made All-Conference in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. He then became an assistant coach for Wayne State from 1997-2002. When the school's head coach died, Alexander took over the reigns at age 30.

Alexander was twice named the GLIAC Coach of the Year (2005 and 2008) and he led the school to a team-record 34 wins in 2008. Under Alexander's guidance, Anthony Bass became a Division II All-American and 5th-round pick in the 2008 amateur draft.

Alexander then was hired as head coach of Eastern Michigan University. He led the team to a 25-35 record his first year, 2009, and produced two players picked in the MLB amateur draft. His contract was not renewed after the 2014 season.
