Biographical Information[edit]

Jasiel Acosta has spent over a decade in the Mexican League.

Acosta debuted in 1999 with the Monclova Steelers, allowing 9 runs in 7 innings. In 2000, the teenager went 1-1 with a save and a 5.32 ERA in 38 outings. During 2001, he was 2-4 with a 7.65 ERA for Monclova. In the 2002 season, Jasiel pitched for Monclova (9-5, 4.89) and the Danville Braves (2-2, 4.83 in 7 G).

When 2003 rolled around, Jasiel was back with Monclova full-time and posted a 6-11, 5.49 record. In 2004, Acosta went 4-6 with a 5.12 ERA. During 2005, he went 3-6 with a 6.25 ERA. He bounced back the next year, going 9-5 with a 3.99 ERA, almost identical numbers with future big leaguer Walter Silva.

Acosta pitched for Mexico in the 2006 COPABE Olympic Qualifiers, allowing 5 runs in only 2 1/3 IP; he had the second-highest ERA on the Mexican squad. Jasiel fell to 6-9, 5.74 in 2007 and gave up 155 hits in 109 2/3 IP. In 2008, he rebounded to go 10-7 with a 4.14 ERA; in 128 1/3 innings, he only walked 19 batters.

Jasiel put up very similar statistics in 2009, with a 11-8, 4.48 record. He was put on Mexico's team for the 2009 Baseball World Cup.
