Biographical Information

Jarlin García pitched for the World Team in the 2015 Futures Game. He made his major league debut with the Miami Marlins on April 14, 2017 and two days later, manager Don Mattingly did not hesitate to throw him into the lions' den, sending him in to face Jay Bruce of the New York Mets with two on and one out in the 6th, Miami leading 1-0, and Dan Straily having just departed without giving up a hit. Jarlin struck out Bruce on a full count and then got Lucas Duda to fly out to left to end the inning and keep the potential no-hitter going. He was replaced by Kyle Barraclough in the 7th who added another hitless inning, then Neil Walker broke the no-hit bid with a single off Brad Ziegler with two outs in the 8th. He pitched 68 times as a rookie, going 1-2, 4.73 in 53 1/3 innings.

After two more relief appearances at the start of the 2018 season, he was given his first opportunity to start a game on April 11th against the New York Mets. He did a masterful job, hitting the Mets hitless for 6 innings while needing just 77 pitches, but he was then removed by manager Don Mattingly as he had reached his pitch count limit and the team did not want him to risk injury, no matter how brilliantly he was pitching. He was replaced by Drew Steckenrider in the 7th, who gave up a two-out single to Todd Frazier to end the no-hit bid. New York then scored 4 runs in the 8th to win the game, 4-1. He extended his hitless streak as a starter to 10 innings by keeping the New York Yankees hitless through 4 innings in his next start on April 17th; rookie Miguel Andujar finally broke the jinx with a one-out double in the 5th, but Miami won the game 9-1, the win going to Jarlin's ledger. The 10 hitless innings to begin a career as a starter matched the record set by Bobo Holloman, who had managed a complete game no-hitter in his first start in what was otherwise a rather nondescript major league career. For his part, Jarlin went 3-3, 4.91 in 29 games, including 7 starts, logging 66 innings.
