Jan Molleman
Biographical Information[edit]
Jan Molleman spent over a decade in the top Dutch league (now known as the Hoofdklasse), usually playing center field and often hitting leadoff. He was known for his ability to reach base and for his speed.
Molleman played for Kennemerland (1953-1957), EDO (1958-1963) and Haarlem Nicols (1964-1965), with his teams winning national titles in 1958 and 1965. He hit .309 to finish 7th in the league in 1959 and set a record with seven walks in the second game of a doubleheader rout August 5, 1962. He was considered for the Dutch national team at one point but never made the cut. He later was an umpire from 1971-1978, having been an umpire for part of 1953-1954. His son Marco Molleman coached the Dutch softball champions in 2013, Jan's last full year of life.
