Biographical Information[edit]

Jan Homolka has pitched at times for the Czech national team. He allowed no earned runs and two hits in 2 1/3 IP in the 1999 European Championship as a teenager. In the 2001 European Championship, he was the worst Czech hurler, giving up 7 runs, 3 hits and 3 walks in only 1/3 of an inning. He pitched for Krč Altron in 2003, going 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA; at the plate, he was 6 for 21 with 5 RBI. In 2004, he was 5-1 with a 1.46 ERA. He tied for 5th in the Extraliga with 3 complete games, was 9th in ERA and tied Leoš Kubát for 7th in wins.

Homolka hit .256/.298/.321 in 2005 and was 8-0 with a save and a 1.07 ERA. He was second in the circuit with 4 complete games, was second to Petr Pacas in ERA and tied Jan Řeháček for third in wins, behind Radek Procházka and Petr Minařík. He was 1-0 with a 2.06 ERA in the 2005 European Championship, beating Roman Yatsuk and Ukraine. In the 2005 Baseball World Cup, Homolka gave up 7 runs in 4 1/3 IP for the Czech squad.

In 2006, Jan was 5-2 with a 2.56 ERA for Krč Altron and hit .274/.323/.321. He tied for sixth in the Extraliga in wins. In '07, he fell to 3-5 despite a 2.72 ERA; he batted .264/.330/.322. He was the top Czech pitcher in the 2007 European Championship, tossing 6 1/3 shutout innings and striking out seven.

Homolka struggled in 2008 and only hit .200/.273/.222.
