Jan Baldee began his minor league career in 2008.
Baldee was on a DOOR Neptunus farm team and spent 2006-2007 in the European Baseball Academy. He was signed in October 2007 by the Houston Astros. Baldee is a shortstop. He was assigned to the VSL Astros in June of 2008 and debuted on the 7th, going 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts against the VSL Rays. He went 3 for 43 with one walk and 19 strikeouts for the 2008 VSL Astros. In the 2008 World Junior Championship, Baldee was 2 for 23 with 2 walks and made four errors in 42 fielding tries.
After the minor league season ended, Baldee joined Sparta/Feyenoord in Hoofdklasse but hit only .161/.188/.161 and fielded .891 in 10 games. His 2008 season showed that he was clearly not ready for the top Dutch league or the US minors.
In 2009, Baldee was no better in the US. For the GCL Astros, he was 1 for 41 with two walks and 24 strikeouts. He fielded .860. Baldee had hit .048 in his two minor league campaigns. The Astros then released him.
