Biographical Information[edit]

James Petty played in the minor leagues from 1946 to 1947 and from 1949 to 1950.

In his first professional season, he hit .298 with 23 doubles, 14 triples and 11 home runs in 113 games split between the Hornell Maples and Tallahassee Pirates. With Hornell and the Rehoboth Beach Pirates in 1947, he hit .323 with 30 doubles, 12 triples, 12 home runs and a .526 slugging percentage in 120 games. He did not play in 1948, but returned with a bang in 1949 and hit .362 with 188 hits and 35 doubles in 132 games for the Bangor Pickers, placing 3rd in the North Atlantic League in batting average. He wrapped up his career by hitting .331 in 47 games split between the Reidsville Luckies and Waterbury Timers in 1950. Overall, he hit .330 with 517 hits, 106 doubles, 33 triples, 33 home runs and a .503 slugging percentage in 412 games.

He served in the Navy during World War II.
