Biographical Information[edit]
Middle infielder James Martin played in the minor leagues on-and-off from 1941 to 1950. He hit as high as .337 in 121 games for the Columbia Reds in 1942, batting over .300 in two other seasons, as well. In his final two seasons, he hit 36 and 34 doubles, respectively. Overall, Martin hit .304 with 9 home runs, 127 doubles and 779 hits in 622 games.
Martin was letterman in football, basketball, track, and baseball at Furman University. He returned to the school as head baseball coach in 1943.
He managed the Florence Steelers from 1948 to 1950.
