Biographical Information[edit]
James Belknap played one season of minor league ball.
Belknap was co-captain of the Woonsocket High School baseball team that won the 1952 Rhode Island State baseball championship. After graduation, James served in the U.S. Air Force and played baseball on military teams. He was signed by the Boston Red Sox and played 7 games for the 1954 Bluefield Blue-Grays in the Appalachian League. At some point in the season, Belknap switched over to the A's affiliated Welch Miners in the same league and played another 4 games. In 11 games, he hit .214 (6 for 28) with one home run and five singles.
Following his baseball career, Belknap worked in construction and eventually became a maintenance worker for the Woonsocket school system. He was a coach for the East Woonsocket Little League and an American Legion Baseball team as well as an assistant coach for the Woonsocket High School baseball teams.
He died at his home in Woonsocket in December 2010 at the age of 77.
