Biographical Information[edit]
Jake Propst had one plate appearance in the majors, and a fairly short minor league career, but was apparently mayor of his town quite a bit.
Propst was 28 by the time he came to the majors. He was seven years younger than teammate Walter Johnson.
The minor league database shows that he played three seasons in the Cotton States League, although the data may not be complete. In 1922 he was a teammate of the young Smead Jolley, and they both hit .314.
An article about the death of Jake Propst Jr. stated he was the son of "a livery stable owner who had a brief flirtation with major league baseball". The father was called Bill Propst in the article and was mayor three times of Columbus, MS. The son played minor league baseball with a break for service in WWII. [1]
