Biographical Information[edit]

In 1987, the U.S. Virgin Islands had a team that upset perennial power Taiwan in the Senior Little League World Series (Elmo Plaskett helped them practice). Afterward, a couple of the St. Croix youngsters moved to Miami, attending Edison High School. One of them was a little outfielder named Jackie Ross, whose father had been a local player of some note in St. Croix, though he never played professionally. In 1988, Eddie Williams moved up too and joined the Edison team; he was followed in 1989 by Midre Cummings.

The Montreal Expos drafted Jackie Ross in the 17th round of the 1990 draft, but he did not sign. Then the Milwaukee Brewers took him in the 45th round in 1991, and he played from 1991 through 1993 in the Brewers chain. His first two years were moderately promising, as he hit .297 and .299 in rookie ball, with OPS figures of .813 and .845. Ross earned promotion to Class A in 1993 but hit just .243 with 2 homers and 41 RBIs.

Ross then went on to play in independent leagues from 1994 through 1998.
